FORT WORTH, TX — The Texas State Bar Litigation Section has awarded Cantey Hanger Managing Partner Stephen L. Tatum the Luther (Luke) H. Soules III Award, which is presented annually to an attorney “who embodies excellence in the practice of law and exemplary service to the Bar through outstanding professionalism and community impact.”
Luther (Luke) H. Soules III has nearly 50 years of legal practice excellence and is a name partner with Soules & Wallace in San Antonio, TX.
“I am humbled to join the small group of former recipients of this award. They are all remarkable lawyers and they all have done the profession proud,” Tatum said.
The Luke Soules Award recognizes attorneys in good standing in the State of Texas for a minimum of 10 years who meet the following criteria: demonstrated commitment to equal justice under law; conduct promoting the rule of law; outstanding examples of professionalism; community impact as a result of the practice of law and one or more significant contributions as a result of legal representation.
Tatum has spent a career in appellate courts throughout the United States. His practice focus is centered in trial and appellate litigation, having argued more than 75 appeals.
He received his Bachelor of Science from Southern Methodist University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin.
Tatum is a board member with Texas Health Resources and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Tarrant County Metropolitan YMCA and Tarrant County Samaritan House. In addition, he has served as a Trustee for Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. and Harris Methodist Hospital-Fort Worth.
As an honorarium, a $1,000 check from the Bar will be donated to Samaritan House in Tatum’s name.
