FORT WORTH, TX – Julie K. Sherman has won the prestigious Liberty Bell Award from The Texas Young Lawyers Association. Sherman is a paralegal for Cantey Hanger attorneys Carol Traylor, Jordan Parker, and Brad Poulos. The award will be given to her at a Texas Young Lawyers reception being held during the State Bar of Texas Annual meeting in Austin on Friday evening, June 27th.
The Liberty Bell Award recognizes an outstanding non-lawyer who has made a “selfless contribution to the community by strengthening the effectiveness of the American system of justice, and by instilling a better understanding and appreciation of the law.” The award recognizes community service that (1) promotes a better understanding of government, especially the Bill of Rights; (2) encourages greater respect for the law and the courts; (3) stimulates a deeper sense of individual responsibility so that citizens recognize their duties and rights; (4) contributes to the effective functioning of institutions of government; and (5) instills a better understanding and appreciation of the law.
Sherman is in the litigation section of Cantey Hanger, where she has worked 17 years. She is a Board Certified Paralegal, Texas Board of Legal Specialization — Personal Injury Trial Law. She attended the paralegal studies program at Tarrant County College.

In January, Sherman was named Volunteer Paralegal of the Year by the Tarrant County Bar Association for her work with the Tarrant County Volunteer Attorney Services Pro Bono Program. In March, she received the Liberty Bell Award from the Tarrant County Young Lawyers Association. She previously won the 2013 State Bar of Texas Exceptional Pro Bono Service Award — Paralegal Division.
She has been a member of the Fort Worth Paralegal Association since 1989, the Texas State Bar Paralegal Division since 1986 and the State Bar College since 2007. She was selected the 2006 Fort Worth Paralegal Association Paralegal of the Year (FWPA) and has held several board and chair positions with the FWPA, including 2010 President.
In the community, Sherman is active with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Tarrant Area Food Bank and Mission Arlington.
