Brings 9 Years of Specialized Consumer Protection Experience
FORT WORTH, TX. (Sept. 30, 2013) – Deanya Kueckelhan Cocanougher has joined the Fort Worth office of Cantey Hanger LLP as a Partner. She most recently was Director of the five-state Southwest Region of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
“Deanya’s diverse practice background and her consumer law experience at the FTC and the Texas Attorney General’s Office will help the firm provide even more services to clients, particularly in the relatively new practice area involving consumer law and privacy rights.” said Stephen L. Tatum, Cantey Hanger Managing Partner.
Cocanougher specialized in federal and state consumer law during the last nine of her 24-year career. Her experience includes seven years at the FTC and two stints as Managing Attorney in offices of the Texas Attorney General. She twice had a solo practice, but was lured to the Texas Attorney General’s office each time.
With Cantey Hanger, she will focus her practice on consumer law issues, including compliance with consumer privacy, mobile, financial, marketing, and advertising consumer laws; and defense of FTC, CFPB, and Texas AG consumer protection enforcement actions.
“Established over 130 years ago, the Cantey Hanger firm has kept pace with changing business practices. Now, Cantey Hanger adds a consumer law practice that will include compliance and enforcement representation for the benefit of its existing and new clients. I am extremely pleased to be a part of that,” Cocanougher said.
Cocanougher earned a Bachelors and Masters of Science Degree from East Texas State University. She earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Dedman School of Law, Southern Methodist University. She was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1990. Cocanougher is also admitted to practice in the Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern Districts of Texas; the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Cocanougher lives in Southlake with her husband, Robert Cocanougher. They are parents of Haley, Kara, Robert Jr. and Jennifer and grandparents of Parker. Cocanougher is the daughter of Malda Kueckelhan and the late Haynes Kueckelhan of Bonham, where she grew up on a working ranch. She is an active member of Park Cities Baptist Church, regularly serving through her church and community. Her father, Haynes, founded the Kueckelhan Ranch Rodeo in Bonham, TX.
