Allan Howeth

Allan Howeth has represented clients in estate planning, probate, estate, gift and income tax practice since joining Cantey Hanger in 1963.
Mr. Howeth served as Managing Partner of the firm for twenty years, first serving as an interim Managing Partner, then as the elected Managing Partner from 1985 to 2004.

Mr. Howeth is the former managing partner of the firm and is a former section head of the Taxation, Trust and Estates, Small Business Organizations Group in the Fort Worth office. A native of Fort Worth, Mr. Howeth joined Cantey Hanger in 1963, after receiving his law degree from Southern Methodist University that year. As an undergraduate, he first attended Texas Tech University, and then transferred to Texas Christian University, earning his B.A. in 1960.

His legal expertise includes individual and business tax planning, purchase and sale of business organizations, estate planning, probate and trust related matters.

Morton Herman

Mr. Herman is a graduate of St. Mary’s University School of Law, J.D. 1971. He was a founder and associate editor of The St. Mary’s Law Journal. Post-graduate studies include work on an LLM at George Washington School of Law in Washington, DC. Upon graduation from law school, he worked in Washington, D.C. in the Office of General Counsel Federal Communications Commission, from 1970-1972, during the tenuous times of the Watergate scandal. He was first licensed to practice law in Texas in 1971.

Fort Worth native and veteran attorney, Mr. Herman’s practice is centered in real estate law, business and commercial transactions, probate estate administration, and commercial law.

His undergraduate degree, a B.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin in 1965, preceded a two-year stint in the U.S. Army serving in Japan and Vietnam as a first lieutenant during the Vietnamese Conflict.

Laura Hilton Hallmon

Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, and Chair of Cantey Hanger’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group, Laura Hallmon is a 1996 graduate of Baylor University and received her Juris Doctor degree from Baylor University School of Law in 1999.
A career-long employment law litigator, Laura strives to offer her clients practical solutions to the variety of challenges that arise in the modern workplace, specifically focusing her practice on the prosecution and defense of a variety of state and federal employment law matters, including discrimination/harassment, retaliation, wage and hour disputes and restrictive covenants prohibiting competition/solicitation/trade secret disclosure. In addition to litigation, Laura also represents clients in a wide range of administrative proceedings and investigations conducted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, State Office of Administrative Hearings, and Texas Workforce Commission. Laura also counsels clients on litigation avoidance through effective employment practices and compliance, and regularly conducts independent, third-party investigations. Having completed the 40-Hour Mediation Training by The University of Texas at Austin School of Law’s Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution, Laura likewise serves as a mediator in all varieties of civil disputes.
Laura was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May of 1999 and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, each of the U.S. District Courts for the four Districts of Texas, and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. Laura is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation.
Laura began her practice with the Law Offices of David Fielding in March 1999, becoming a partner in January 2005.
